When all of this is over – the Covid, the Lockdown, the Isolation, the Homeschool, the Working at Home and all the rest of the stuff we’ve been dealing with…what happens next?

We have decided that life needs to be more deliberate after lockdown. We don’t want life to just happen to us anymore. We want to be deliberate about what we let back in after lock down is over – to our hearts, to our homes and to our schedules. And we need to be deliberate about what we don’t let in.

I take food once a week to a lovely house bound lady. Since lock down, I have been taking the car because I take the kids with me as well as various tubs of food.
However, taking the kids does not mean I have to take the car. The kids are perfectly capable of cycling, it is not a long bike ride.
If you have read our other posts, you will know that we like cycling! It is wonderful to get fit and feel the wind in your hair. As well as our leg powered bikes, we have our E-Cargo bike which has enabled us to cycle our kids to school for a couple of years. We can thoroughly recommend them for families with young children! Check out my post about the school run here.
Why did I not cycle before? I didn’t cycle because I was lazy and trying to do too much at once rather than focussing on doing one thing well. Cycling on this one journey would be good for me, the earth, and be an example to our kids. But it is something I need to be deliberate about, and plan into my day.

Eco-shopping
What do I mean by eco-shopping? Simply taking my reusable produce bags with me when I go to the shop and using them to buy as much of my fruit and veg as possible. Not a hard concept, but I have to remember, I have to be more deliberate about remembering to take my produce bags.
When the economy picks up again I will hopefully be going back to getting a veg bag from a local supplier. I miss the variety of veg we used to get from this, and it is always good to support local organic farmers who are looking after their own corner of the world.
We get milk delivered in glass bottles which brings me no end of pleasure!

I want to be more deliberate about fixing things. Being a fixer upper is the number one best way to be eco friendly. Fix the stuff you already have before deciding you need to buy new stuff.
Recently, we got a dog! She’s a 9 month old puppy who likes to chew stuff..so there are plenty of fixing opportunities. I have already fixed her bed and a cushion, which were easy fixes, but I need to learn to use my sewing machine..something I definitely need to be more deliberate about or it will never happen

I had been good at taking the time to make sure there was always some sort of home baking on the go to save buying snacks in plastic wrappers. Check out my posts on home made oatcakes , hummus and pizza.

Bearing in mind I am a full time mum of two young kids and a fur baby, I don’t have all the time in the world for baking so I am also looking forward to being able to buy fresh package free baking from the bakery counter in our local supermarket again – everything from apple turnovers to cookies.
I need to be more deliberate about planning plastic free snacks because currently my kids are eating me out of house and home so some plastic wrapped snacks like crisps and breakfast bars have been purchased over the course of Lockdown.
What do you need to be more deliberate about life after COVID-19? Write a comment or send me a message, I’d love to hear.
